Wildcat Weekly

August 28, 2026
Dear Valley Oak Families,

The first couple of weeks have flown by, and it’s been wonderful to see our Wildcats settling into the rhythm of a new school year. Across campus, students are quickly learning routines and procedures—both inside and outside the classroom—and it shows. As I’ve visited classrooms, I’ve seen so many on‑task, focused, and attentive Wildcats who are already demonstrating pride in their learning and in our school community.

Thank you to our teachers and staff for the intentional work you’ve put into building strong foundations, modeling expectations, and creating welcoming spaces for students. Your efforts are evident in every hallway, every transition, and every lesson.

We are off to a strong start, and I’m excited for all the growth, joy, and learning ahead as we continue to live out the Wildcat Way.

With Wildcat Pride,
Aman Athwal
Principal

Important Information

Calling All Community Heroes!

Our annual Jog-a-Thon is Wednesday, September 30th, and this year’s theme is “The Hero Run!” We will be encouraging students to wear red white and blue for the run. Jog-a-thon information will be officially sent out on September 16th.
We’ve already had several families reach out with connections to local community heroes, and we’d love to continue building on that! We are inviting firefighters, police officers, EMTs, military personnel, utility workers, medical professionals, and other community heroes to join us by bringing a vehicle or setting up a display/booth for students. If you or someone you know would like to participate, please reply to this announcement or contact Mr. Swain at ryanmichaelswain@cusd.com with your name, profession, and vehicle/display details. Thank you for helping us inspire our Wildcats and make this year’s Hero Run a huge success!

Calling all TK–3rd grade students! Join the Valley Oak Cheer Squad for a fun and exciting Cheer-A-Thon on Wednesday, September 30, from 3:30–5:00 PM in the Valley Oak MPR. Students will learn basic cheer motions, a sideline routine, jumps, and a dance alongside the Valley Oak cheerleaders and Clovis West cheerleaders. Participants will receive a T-shirt and bow and have the opportunity to cheer with the Valley Oak Cheer Squad at the home football game on Friday, October 2. The cost is $35 per child, with cash or checks payable to VOPC. Please have students bring water, wear athletic attire and tennis shoes, and have their hair pulled up and away from their face.
